“The Great Apes” è la sesta traccia di Unlimited Love. Il pezzo si è sviluppato su un’idea di Flea per la bassline, avuta mentre stava strimpellando sulle sonorità reggae di Night Nurse di Gregory Isaac, seppure la canzone non abbia assolutamente nulla di quelle atmosfere. Il brano si distingue anzi per una delle parti di chitarra più impressionanti dell’intero album, in cui John gioca con i feedback e i toni prima di esplodere in un assolo di grande aggressività, splendidamente sorretto dal basso di Flea. Sfortunatamente, il pezzo non è stato mai eseguito nei concerti del 2022 che hanno seguito l’uscita di Unlimited Love.
